Lillian Canright

Born in Chicago in 1989, Lillian Canright is currently an MFA candidate at Tokyo University of the Arts. She graduated in 2012 with a BA in Film and Electronic Arts from Bard College, where in addition to video production and cinema history she studied mathematics, philosophy, and French literature. Her interest in translation lies primarily in the balancing act that emerges between interpretation and fidelity — an essentially creative act that nevertheless only occurs within a strict set of previously delineated boundaries, set both by the author of the source text and the structural requirements of the languages in question.
